Chad, Aaron, and Jason were sitting through another mundane day of school. Now, more than they ever did back when their lives were normal, they spent the whole day anticipating the end of the school day. They were currently sitting through a boring old math class that Chad had already taken. The teacher was going on about parabolas or something, Chad wasn't really paying attention.
Chad sighed and stared at the floor, lost in thought. "I can't believe I lost yesterday. I totally had her, but I had to go and reveal myself like an idiot. Bah! I'm so worthless!" He continued to feel sorry for himself until Jason smacked him in the back of the head.
"Yo, jackass," he whispered, "Teach just asked you a question."
Chad looked up at the board and studied it for a second. After a moment of deciphering what it was the teacher was looking for, Chad gave his answer. "Impressive, Mr. Bannerman. I was under the impression that you weren't paying attention. Now, if you'll look on page..."
Jason patted his back, "Nice, man. How the hell did you even know that?"
Chad just shrugged, "Guess I'm just that good." He chuckled and returned to his thoughts. "Well, I gotta remember that I wasn't the only one to lose yesterday. Jason did too, so I guess I can't put myself down too much." He stayed zoned out throughout the rest of the class, daydreaming about this and that. When the bell rang, the three of them got up and walked out the door.
As they were walking down the hall to their next class, Yoko's, they saw a familiar face that they thought would take a while before they ever saw it again. Aaron was the first to notice, he nudged Chad and pointed. "Dude, is that Matt?"
Chad and Jason looked where he pointed. Jason's eyes widened, "Dude, holy shit, that's him. What's he doing here!?"
"You ask like I'd have any idea," Chad groaned.
"What do we do?" Aaron asked nervously.
"Would you two stop freaking out!? We don't know why he's here, but there's a chance it has nothing to do with the Spirits. And even if it did, he still has no idea we're a part of them. We just act natural and that's it, got it?"
The two nodded. "Just ignore him, and maybe he'll go away, right?" Jason asked.
"No no no, I said act natural. It's natural to be curious as to why he's here. It's not natural to pretend like he's not there. We'll talk to him."
Aaron sighed, "Whatever you say, team leader."
The three of them walked up to Matt. "Hey, Matt!" Chad called out.
Matt had had his back turned to them the whole time, he wasn't expecting anyone to speak to him. He jumped a bit and turned around. He grinned widely when he saw who it was. "Heeeeyyy. What's up guys? What are you doing here?" he asked.
"We were about to ask you the same question," Aaron said.
"Ahh, I'm here to visit the ROTC classes," he lied.
Jason raised an eyebrow, "They still have those?"
Matt thought to himself, "Of course, where else do you think Rutledge goes to brainwash his future soldiers? Didn't have to brainwash me though, I was already in the military by then..." Thanks for taking my job, Matt. "You're welcome." .........Anyway, Matt stopped thinking and spoke, "Yeah, though it's not quite as popular as it was back in our day. So, what have you guys been up to?"
Chad thought, "Oh, nothing much, just joining that resistance movement you've been looking for." He spoke up, "Well, as you can see we're back in school, much to our dismay. We needed a favor from the principal, and he basically forced us to enroll if he was going to help us."
Matt chuckled, "Heh, sounds about right. That bastard's only after personal gain, I swear. I'm half tempted to report that kind of shit to Rutledge, if it weren't for the fact that I don't go to this school anymore and it doesn't really affect me much... except for when I have to come here to visit ROTC of course," he added, covering himself by referring back to his earlier lie.
"Rrriiight..... well, it was nice seein' ya, Matt, but we're gonna be late if we don't head to class." Aaron said, anxious to get away from him.
"Yeah, same here. Well, I'll see ya' around!" Matt jogged off.
Jason and Aaron let out a sigh of relief. "He didn't kill us."
Chad sighed, but not in relief. "Morons... now come on, before we really are late for class." The three of them ran off to Yoko's class, where they made it just in time.
Ta-da! I actually don't really have much to say about this one..... enjoy, and stuff.
